Simplify managing multiple companies in your business with Business Central

For certain businesses there may be a need or requirement to be able to manage multiple companies across your business brand within your ERP system. This is where Business Central can help as it can help you to do this from one single system without having to manage data across multiple systems.

For those of that don’t already know, Business Central (formerly Dynamics NAV) is specifically designed for small and medium sized businesses looking for an all-in-one ERP finance solution that’s easy to use, adapt to and can be deployed in the Cloud or on premise.

It allows your business to be able to turn multiple disconnected systems into one, as well as being able to boost efficiency with automated tasks and workflows all from within your Office 365 tools such as Word, Outlook and Excel.

Furthermore, Business Central can be implemented as an upgrade to your existing entry-level accounting software such as Sage 50, QuickBooks, Xero Accounting or a legacy ERP system which enables you to manage accounting, commercials, operations, sales, purchasing, supply chain and customer service functions from within one solution.

Can Business Central allow me to simply run multiple companies in my business?

The answer is a resounding yes! You will find that a significant number of businesses have to support multiple companies and there haven’t been the best solutions around for businesses to be able to complete these actions. Business Central enables you to build multiple environments and companies through just one solution, providing you with all the tools and capabilities to easily manage all of them in the most efficient way.

Taking this into greater detail, it’s simple to segment your companies as well. This can be achieved through the use of environments in Business Central which enables you to split companies based on location or any other chosen factor. Therefore, if a user has access to multiple companies across different environments, then it is very easy to switch between them as and when you need to.

Better still, you are able to collate the general ledger entries of two or more separate companies into a single company. From this, you are then able to import data directly into the single company from other companies within the same Business Central tenant, from other tenants or from files.

You are able to consolidate:

  • Across companies even if they have a different chart of accounts
  • Businesses that use fiscal years and work in different currencies
  • Either the full amount or a percentage of a company’s financial information
  • Making use of different currency exchange rates across individual G/L accounts
  • Companies across other accounting and business management schemes

The best way to find out which companies you can view is to head to the Company Hub page. Here, you will find a list of users of all the companies they can view as well as information about KPI data & links to be able to open each company. As well as this, you can see an overview of all the assigned tasks you have relating to each individual company.
