What sort of data can be easily migrated from Dynamics GP to Business Central?

Moving data from Dynamics GP to Business Central can be a tricky process as both of the systems have slightly different data structures and architectures. However, it can be possible to migrate certain types of data to ensure that any migration proves successful. Here are just a few examples of the different sorts of data you can bring across:

Financial Data

  • General Ledger including chart of accounts, account balances, journal entries & financial statements.
  • Accounts Payable including outstanding payables, vendor invoices & payment history.
  • Accounts Receivable including outstanding receivables, customer invoices & payment history.
  • Bank Reconciliation including bank account details, reconciliation history & transactions.

Master Data

  • Customer Data including customer information such as name, address & credit limits.
  • Vendor Data including vendor information such as business name, address & payment terms.
  • Item Data including product and service information such as descriptions, pricing & units of measure.

Sales & Purchase Orders

  • Sales Orders including open and historical sales orders, details of the order & customer information.
  • Purchase Orders including open and historical purchase orders, details of the order & vendor information.

Employee & Payroll Data

  • Employee Records including employee information such as name, position & contact information.
  • Payroll Data including employee payroll information, tax codes & payment history.

Historical Transactions

  • Financial Transactions: Archived financial transactions including invoices, bills & payments.
  • Sales & Purchase Transactions: Archived sales & purchase orders, quotes & documents.

It is important to note that more data than this can be mapped out correctly, however these are some of the main ones.

In Summary

It is important to understand that any data you want to transfer between the two systems has to be carefully planned, cleansed and mapped to make sure that the data is accurately migrated and works within the structure of the new system. Most of this process, largely depends on your specific needs, you may need to make use of certain data migration tools and scripts to make this process a lot smoother.
