Common questions about Microsoft Dynamics GP support, its end-of-life timeline, and how Advantage helps UK businesses stay supported today and plan a confident migration to Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Yes — Microsoft Dynamics GP is still supported, but it is approaching the end of its product lifecycle. Microsoft has confirmed that mainstream support for Dynamics GP will end in 2025, with extended support running through to 2029 depending on the version. After these dates, Microsoft will no longer release new features, regulatory updates, or security patches for GP.
Advantage continues to provide expert GP support throughout the remaining lifecycle — including troubleshooting, year-end assistance, HMRC-aligned regulatory updates, and system optimisation — so your business can keep running confidently for as long as you need it.
Microsoft has announced that Dynamics GP will reach the end of its full lifecycle on 31 December 2029. From that point, Microsoft will no longer provide support, security updates, or regulatory updates for any version of the product.
This does not mean you need to migrate immediately — but it does mean that planning your transition now gives you the best chance of a smooth, low-risk move to a modern platform. Advantage recommends starting a readiness assessment at least 12–18 months before your target migration date.
Yes. If GP is working well for your business today, there is no obligation to migrate before you are ready. Advantage continues to fully support GP environments — providing expert helpdesk support, system upgrades, year-end processing, HMRC updates, and managed hosting — for the duration of the Microsoft support lifecycle.
What matters most is having a clear transition plan in place well before the 2029 deadline, so that when you do move, it is a deliberate, well-prepared migration rather than a last-minute scramble. Advantage can help you build that plan at whatever pace suits your business.
Microsoft's recommended migration path from Dynamics GP is to Dynamics 365 Business Central — the modern, cloud-based ERP platform that succeeds GP within the Microsoft ecosystem. Business Central runs entirely in Azure, includes Microsoft Copilot AI features, and receives automatic monthly updates — eliminating the need for future upgrade projects.
Advantage specialises in GP-to-Business Central migrations, covering financial data migration, chart of accounts mapping, historical transaction transfer, customisation review, and user training. We make the transition as structured and low-risk as possible, with minimal disruption to your day-to-day operations.
Dynamics GP is a mature, on-premises finance and operations platform that has served businesses reliably for many years. Dynamics 365 Business Central is its modern, cloud-based successor — designed for the era of AI, automation, and connected business systems.

Advantage provides a comprehensive range of Dynamics GP support services for UK businesses, including:
Migration timelines depend on the complexity of your GP setup — the number of modules in use, the volume of historical data, any customisations or third-party integrations, and your business's readiness to adopt new processes. As a general guide:
Advantage begins every engagement with a GP Readiness Assessment to scope the migration accurately, identify risks early, and produce a realistic project plan before any commitment is made.
Yes — Advantage's migration approach covers the transfer of your key financial data from Dynamics GP to Business Central, including your chart of accounts, open transactions, customer and vendor master data, and agreed historical balances. The scope of historical data migration (how many years of transaction history to bring across) is agreed during the scoping phase based on your business needs and compliance requirements.
For data that falls outside the agreed migration scope, Advantage can advise on archiving strategies so your historical GP data remains accessible after go-live, even if it is not actively loaded into Business Central.
Yes. Advantage regularly takes on the support of Dynamics GP environments that were originally implemented by other partners or internally. Our UK-based GP specialists are experienced in onboarding existing systems — reviewing your configuration, understanding your customisations, and getting up to speed on your specific setup quickly.
If your current GP partner is no longer providing the level of support you need, or if you are looking for a partner who can also plan your future migration to Business Central, Advantage can step in at any stage of your GP journey.
The easiest way to get started is to get in touch with the Advantage team directly. Whether you need immediate GP support, want to understand your migration options, or are ready to book a Business Central readiness assessment, we are happy to have that conversation.
You can contact us via our website, call us on 020 3004 4600, or email hello@advantage.co.uk. There is no obligation — we will listen first and advise based on what makes sense for your specific situation.
