Before 2017 comes to a close and all of us break to share the holidays with those near and dear to us, we wanted to take a few moments to wish you a very happy holiday season (however you choose to celebrate it) and a wonderful new year.
2017 has been quite the year. For the country, it's been a year filled with anticipation, nerves and preparation. Brexit has left businesses in limbo, with most making multiple plans to account for the many different ways the Brexit negotiations could go. The EU's General Data Protection Regulation, aka The GDPR has been a wake-up call for business all across Europe, including Britain. With stricter legislative guidelines in place on how businesses can collect, use and store personal data, the end of 2017 has felt like a mad rush to get everything in order before the GDPR's enforcement day of 25 May 2018; for some businesses, their journey to GDPR compliance has yet to begin, but not to worry, it's not too late yet.
Cybersecurity has also been a recurring theme for 2017. Major attacks, such as the one on Equifax or Morrisons have become a daily feature of our news cycle, and they go to show just how vigilant organisations need to be when it comes to securing their IT systems. Cyber attacks, especially those that are due to hackers exploiting easily avoidable vulnerabilities, will have more sting to their bite once the GDPR is in place. The time to build the (fire) wall is now.
No matter what fortunes 2017 brought, some good some bad, we here at Advantage have had an absolute pleasure working with each and every one of our clients.
