What is your Windows 7 exit strategy?

With Windows 7 support ending next year on January 14th 2020 it may be time to start thinking about your Windows 7 exit strategy. The percentage of market share that Windows 10 holds has risen to 43.6 percent, with the solution still dominating the industry.

The Windows 7 patch costs revealed many companies that still have Windows 7 as their primary operating system are considering their exit strategy or require assistance to upgrade to Windows 8 and beyond.

It seems small to medium-sized businesses are quickest to adopt the change from Windows 7 with many opting to start transitioning to Windows 10 with renewals and purchases speeding up.

There are many reasons why companies may not have upgraded from Windows 7, the most basic being the fact that they do not see a reason to (the discontinuation of Windows 7 from 14th January will change this in due course). Another consideration for companies still using Windows 7 is the industry they operate in, a highly regulated industry may have increased compliance risks and sizable fines if you use an unsupported operating system.

In some special cases there may be perceived compatibility issues for Windows 10 as some companies may have business-critical functionality in Windows 7 apps. Many of these fears can be alleviated with a consultation via your Managed Services partner who will help to guide you with the best way to transition from Windows 7 to the next best solution.
